liveSHOW_Media

You will see the window:
MediaServer_Configuration.png

Here you can configure the media server

Basic idea

The liveSHOWsoftware does not reproduce the media objects from the timeline or jingles, but hands over the task to the liveShow Media program.
The liveSHOWsoftware controls playback on the liveShow_Media program!

The liveShow_Media program can run on a different computer than the liveSHOWsoftwareThus the LiveShow computer is relieved and you can place the second or more computers in the place where the projector is located. The computers must have a network connection. Either use a LAN connection and pull a network cable between the computers or you use a wireless connection.
TheliveSHOWsoftware can connect to several LiveShow: Media programs.

If a liveShow_Media program is started and a network connection to the liveShow computer is installed, the liveSHOWsoftware automatically recognizes the liveShow Media.

Network configuration

Server Port Please enter a port number between 1024 and 65535.
If the MediaServer is started several times on a computer, a different port number must be specified.
see
Start second instance of  the liveSHOW_Media program on the same machin
Note: one port might also be occupied by another running program, in which case you must try until you find a free port.
Start Media Server Starts the media server. The small square to the right will turn green when the server can be started.
If the media server could not be started, the small square remains orange or gray.
Reasons could be:
You have started the liveShow_MediaServer program a second time and used the same port number
Another program occupies the port number

The network cable has been removed, the WLAN connection has been interrupted
Stop Media Server The media server will be stopped and the port number will be free again.
All connections to the liveShow program are terminated.
Server IP (only informal) All IP addresses of the computer are displayed here

Later, in the liveSHOWsoftware, you can connect to the liveShow_Media program under the Media Media Server menu by adding a media server and using the machine name and the port number you entered. The liveSHOWsoftware tries to find the media server automatically, this can take up to 5 seconds.
Note: The computer on which the liveSHOWsoftware is running and the computer running the liveShow_Media program must have a network connection.

In the liveSHOWsoftware Menu: Media - Media Server

Projection screen
output displays

In this section, you will see all connected monitors / video projectors as rectangles. Their arrangement / position is defined by the operating system.
(This may be set up in the respective operating system under the display settings, for example, in Windows 10 under Systemcontrol-Display-Display Settings)
../images/MediaServer_Configuration/Monitor_Single.png

By clicking on one of the rectangles, you can select the corresponding monitor / projector as a projection screen. The rectangle then has a blue frame and the projection surface is displayed as a rainbow image
Later in the LiveShow program, you can determine for each media object, which media server it should be displayed on, and how its position and size should be in relation to the projection surface.

ONLY UNDER WINDOWS (this does not work with Mac OSX):
If you hold down the Shift or Ctrl key, you can also select multiple monitors as the projection area, and the projection area will be the circumscribing rectangle across all selected monitors. If you select multiple monitors that have different resolutions, you will have areas that are not displayed!

../images/MediaServer_Configuration/Monitor_Multi.png

Note: For videos whose resolution (width x height) does not match the screen/beamer resolution, artifacts may appear (e.g. smooth image edges are stair-stepped).
This is because the images of the video have to be re-rendered (redrawn) in a different resolution. Edge smoothing when redrawing the images is very computationally intensive and is therefore not currently used in the liveSHOWsoftware.

Sound Output

All detected sound cards are displayed in a list.

You can select or deselect the sound cards you want to use for playback by clicking the respective checkbox on the left.

To the right of each sound card there is a button  with which you can set for each channel of the sound card which sound lines are to be played back via this channel.
The sound lines are explained in the liveSHOWsoftware. Here only in short:
Internally the liveSHOWsoftware and also the liveSHOW_Media software uses 10 Sound Lines. One can imagine the Sound Lines like the busses of a sound mixer.

By default, the channels of the video file are distributed to the sound lines in order, unless you set it otherwise:
Channel 1 (Front Left) -> Sound Line 1
Channel 2 (Front Right) -> Sound Line 2
Channel 3 (Center) -> Sound Line 3
Channel 4 (Subwoofer) -> Sound Line 4
Channel 5 (Rear Left) -> Sound Line 5
Channel 6 (Rear Right) -> Sound Line 6
etc.

A 5.1 surround sound (6 channels) occupies the sound lines 1-6.
With the sound cards you can now distribute the sound lines to the channels of the sound cards.
For example, a sound with 6 channels could be distributed to three stereo sound cards.

Note:
Please set the sound cards before starting a project. Activating another sound card while sound is currently playing may result in a little sound dropout or a slight time delay.
Removing an external sound card (USB or Blutooth) while sound is playing (even silence) can cause the software to freeze under Mac OS.

Note: If the liveSHOWsoftware and the live_SHOW_Media software are running on the same computer, it is recommended to use a different sound card for the respective sound output.

Note: In the liveSHOWsoftware you can find a detailed help if you open the window 'Sound card output' and then click in the menu: Help - Help for the current window'.

Media folder

If a Media object is added to the liveSHOWsoftware, the file (image / video/text) is transferred to the LiveShow_Media program. The media folder indicates where this file is stored.
Click  to change the media folder. The existing media files are moved to this new folder, when you click .
Only folders are accepted in which you have a write permission, as a rule these are the folders that you have created without any admin rights !!
As default, a folder '.MediaServer' is created in your user folder (in Windows, this is the folder C: \ Users \ youruser_name \ .MediaServer, in Mac this is users / youruser_name /.MediaServer), in Linux this somwhere in the home folder..
When the liveSHOW_Media is started as second instance,
As default, a folder '.MediaServer2' is created.

ATTENTION: No media files are deleted, from time to time the media folder should be cleaned!
You can also do this in the liveSHOWsoftware under Menu: Media Media Server by clicking the Sweep icon of the respective media server.
All media files that are not used in the current project are deleted.

Closes the media server

Start a second instance of the liveSHOW_MEdia program on the same machine

You can start a second instance of the liveSHOW_Media program on the same machine. Prerequisite for this is:
  1. The computer must have at least two graphics outputs
  2. The computer should have at least 8 GB of RAM
  3. The liveShow software must be started on another computer
Statement:
The liveSHOW_Media program requires 40% of the working memory. The liveShow software requires 30% of the working memory.
More than two instances of the liveSHOW_Media  program makes no sense, since more than 100% of the memory could possibly be occupied and the computer would outsource the RAM to the hard disk.
The same applies if two instances of the MediaServer program and the liveShowSoftware are started at the same time.

When the liveSHOW_Media software is started, a second instance of the liveSHOW_Media software is automatically started.
This second instance can then be assigned another output display (another projection screen).
This means that two beamers, for example, can be operated with one computer.

Notes on playing videos

Video files can be in many different (compression) formats. The image size (width / height) of the videos can also be very different.
Depending on the file format and the picture size, the playing of a video can be very intensive. Please always check if your computer can play a video smoothly before using a project in a show.
For HD movies, a processor Intel i5 6400 or better is enough.
4K movies are currently still problematic, perhaps changing with advancing hardware.

If your video does not play smoothly, you can try to convert the video with the Video / Sound Converter in the liveSHOWsoftware, if necessary reduce the image size.

The liveShow software tries to calculate and adjust the next place in a video (media object). It is, however, impossible to predict all eventualities.
The following points help in the calculation:
You must try something in doubt.
